The Lansdowne Classic Series is an official British Championship under the title "Bonhams British Historic GP Championship" and is sponsored by Bonhams the auctioneers. This Series is the most prestigious championship of its kind. We have not forgotten our roots though as we also have the "WRR Lansdowne Cup", sponsored by "The National Motorcycle Museum" in memory of Roy Richards the NMM founder. This caters for the Clubmen amongst the riders, having been developed from the inaugural Lansdowne race meeting back in 1999. The Grand Prix Championship is for 500cc machines only whereas the Lansdowne Cup accommodates 350cc machines as well, all being of the type raced in the 50’s and 60’s. If you are interested in racing with us please read the "Aims of the series" (via the "Aims" button above), and then in "Downloads" read "2012 Notes" and "2012 Regulations" for further information on ethos and eligibility. All our races are by invitation only, so if you wish to be considered please fill in the "2012 Rider Registration" and the "2012 Machine Registration" form from "Downloads" and send them to the organisers ( see Contacts ). One of the Lansdowne Team will then contact you to discuss. Registered riders will be able to download the latest "meeting regs" from the web-site using a password. 2012 promises to be very exiting year so please come back to check out the latest news and see how the riders are getting on.

OUR OBJECTIVE

The objective of the Series is to create and maintain a level playing field for those wishing to race genuine "Group 1, Period 1" machines (and faithful replicas) without encountering the "white heat" and (unfair) competition from machines bearing post-period modifications/developments.

This is with the intention of recreating as far as possible the sight, sounds, and spirit of Grand Prix racing in the late 1950's and early 1960's for both rider and spectator alike while, at the same time, maintaining a viable event for the host circuit/club.

The series is an invitation only event but in order to give competitors and potential competitors a guide as to what would be welcome to the Series, in "Downloads" read "2012 Notes" and "2012 Regulations" for further information on ethos and eligibility.

For 2012 there are to be two specific Championships, The Lansdowne Cup is renamed the "WRR Lansdowne Cup" in memory of Roy Richards the museum founder, sponsored by "The National Motorcycle Museum", and will be machine handicapped as previous years. The BBHGP is sponsored by Bonhams again and will be for 500cc machines to strict specification and no handicap.

Riders will only be eligible for one championship or the other - not both.
